Golden Harmony Vocal Art Exhibition 2026
2026年”金色和声”
音乐节暨艺术
展演

The 2026 Golden Harmony Choir Showcase is a non-competitive showcase programme included in the China regional agenda of the 2027 Olymp’Arts. It is open to choirs of older adults across China. Through tiered showcase events held in each participating region, participating choirs will be invited to join the performance week of the 2027 Olymp’Arts, presenting the spirit and cultural life of older communities from across China’s regions and ethnic groups on an international stage. Choirs from across the country are warmly invited to take part.

The Golden Harmony Choir Showcase adopts a non-competitive, non-contest format. Setting aside the conventional mindset of competition and returning to the essence of art, it centres on showcase, exchange and improvement, building a pure, inclusive and high-standard platform for vocal art among older adults. Choirs are not scored, graded or ranked, and no prizes or titles are given.

The Golden Harmony Choir Showcase is rooted in community life and looks outward to the world. It focuses on grassroots vocal art groups of older adults, covering diverse forms including bel canto, Chinese ethnic vocals, traditional music in its original form, popular music, and music drawn from intangible cultural heritage traditions. Vocal art is far more than technical proficiency; it carries emotion and keeps culture alive. We hope to bring the touching melodies of neighbourhood communities and grassroots settings onto the international stage of the Olymp’Arts, so that they may be seen and heard.

Widen participation. Through showcases held in communities across the country, choirs are invited to join the international exchange programme of the 2027 Olymp’Arts, opening a new route for older adults to take part in cultural life.

Present choral culture of older adults in China. Participating choirs will perform and join exchange activities at the 2027 Olymp’Arts, sharing the repertoire, spirit and everyday cultural life of older communities in China with an international audience.

Build lasting exchange. Choral singing is understood everywhere. Through it, participating choirs can build connections with older people’s art groups in other countries, encouraging exchange and understanding between communities.

Participating choirs may join training sessions organised by the Golden Harmony China Organising Committee, with artistic input from the World Vocal Arts Development Committee. Sessions are led by experienced choral conductors and vocal coaches from China and abroad. Training involves no assessment, scoring or ranking. Artistic guidance concentrates on three areas: blend and expressiveness in singing; the cultural background and regional traditions behind the repertoire; and the sense of togetherness within the group. Tutors and course details for each region will be published before registration opens.

World Olymp’Arts Council (WOAC)
The World Olymp’Arts Council is an international body promoting cross-regional artistic exchange and cultural development. Its Founding Charter marks its 31st anniversary in 2026. On 16 July 2025, the Council held the 30th Anniversary Conference of its Founding Charter at UNESCO, attended by representatives of artistic, cultural and international organisations from 80 countries, with delegates from over 70 countries jointly signing the WOAC Declaration. In early 2026, Ms Irina Bokova, former Director-General of UNESCO, and Mr Kim Won-soo, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, were appointed Honorary Presidents of the World Olymp’Arts Council. The Olymp’Arts is the Council’s comprehensive international art gathering, held every four years, most recently in 2023. The 2027 edition will for the first time feature a “Cross-Age Art Dialogue” section, reflecting the view that art transcends age boundaries. The China launch ceremony for the 2027 Olymp’Arts was
held in Beijing in February 2026.

World Vocal Arts Development Committee (WVADC)
Founded in 2025, the World Vocal Arts Development Committee is the body responsible for vocal art development under the World Olymp’Arts Council (WOAC). Responding to the call for art participation across all age groups set out in the WOAC Declaration, the Committee established a dedicated vocal art working group to support exchange among art groups with rich cultural traditions and artistic expressiveness. WVADC provides artistic guidance to the Golden Harmony Choir Showcase, covering showcase organisation advice, artistic coaching and international exchange
arrangements.

International exchange
Subject to confirmation of the final programme by the World Olymp’Arts Council, and to the relevant approvals required for performances abroad, participating choirs will perform and join exchange activities during the performance week of the 2027 Olymp’Arts. The repertoire will combine Chinese folk songs, well-loved songs from earlier decades, and works on the theme of peace. Choirs will also take part in exchanges and joint performances with older people’s choirs from other countries, talking about how community choral singing is organised in China and hearing how it works elsewhere. Details will be published once the programme is confirmed.

Taking part
Later life is not an ending but a new beginning for artistic life. Many people take up singing seriously for the first time after retirement, or return to it
after years away.

Through the Golden Harmony Choir Showcase, choirs from communities across China can rehearse together, perform for their own audiences, and meet singers of their own generation from other countries. Audiences abroad, in turn, get to hear how people in China sing in later life.

Choirs and community singing groups from across the country are welcome to take part. Organisations interested in supporting or hosting a showcase in their own region are invited to contact the Golden Harmony China Organising Committee
directly.
